When my beautiful lil' client, Alyssa Campenella was crowned Miss USA, I couldn't help but think that she just seems so FRESH and fun - the perfect combination of gorgeous and cool with a great head on her shoulders and an eloquent way of expressing herself.

I was sad at first to learn that she is not into big accesories - probably my favourite thing in the world - but I now know that its because she makes up for it in MOUNTAINS of personality and a classic but fresh style. Kudos to those who voted for her, I couldn't imagine a better face and brain for California and now the US! Yeay Alyssa - keeping Miss USA relevant and en Vogue - you have our support mama!! :)

"Green tea, sugar, a few microbes, and a little time..." clothing designer Suzanne Lee its essentially speaking about using a kambucha recipe which spin cellulose in a fermentation process. What this means is that we are coming closer to being able to "grow" our own clothes. The potential r e a c h of this process is being explored in the medical arena as well. Bacteria healing is already being used for wound-healing, and the hope is that in the future, it can be used as replacement bone tissue.... how amazing is this?
How to grow your own clothes.... Kambucha is not just a drink with trace levels of alcohol to upset the old folks, its a magical tea that, and while it unfortunately won't give us a buzZ, it does hold the potential to provide us each our own "mini fabric farm".
I love that on a QUEST for something like a more earth-friendly fiber for clothing production, so many WONDERFUL BI-PRODUCTS can emerge. That's why thinking & exploring the crazy little ideas that bubble up here n' there is SOsoSO important my lil' dreamers ... . . . .

my theory on style is to allow yourself to be inspired by the beautiful things around you. Therefore, the beautiful music in my earballs is what's managing to titillate my guts right meow. With that being said, style isn't just about your presentation to the outside world; its about taking in the world around us as well - so that be that.

I have been revisiting some OLD memories tonight from a girlhood spent painting lines in colors and spinning shapes on a wheel in a damp basement studio in Buffalo New York with tangelo orange shag rug & cold cement walls.

Summers whendayyyys werespent museum-hoPping with my beautifulartist mother. I was remembering thestark white walls of the Albrite Knox museum where she would walk with the purpose and certainty of a womanwho could educate theworld about anypainting orsculpture you so much glanced at, and I wandered with lighttoes and a deep curiosity while I tried to absorb herknowledge via some form of art osmosis. As she clickady clacked down the halls of whatevermuseum we were in, in whatever awesome sparkly shoes she was rocking at the time, my eyes never stopped bouncing from one painting to another. a Victor Vasarely that made me dizzy,an elegant Degas in the center of an otherwise emptyroom, to the high strung female guard combing the shuffling room with nervous eyes darting from one dormant camera bag to the next.

I fell in love with a few little masterpieces during those years, and I was trying to remember the name of an old favourite of mine, and, when it dawned on me a minute ago, it gave me a niiiiiice littlebelly giggle...

How long have you been creating your own original artwork?: Since I was a child. I used to use materials from my grandfather’s garage to create paintings and sculptures. I also made an owl plush toy when I was seven with my mom’s pantyhose, some pillow stuffing, thread and a few buttons.

What was the inspiration behind your design?:

I was just so outraged by the gulf oil spill and when I saw how pristinely white the shoes were I thought I just had to cover them in black to make them look like an oil spill. The American flag stuck to the bottom like a piece of toilet paper I thought was a nice touch.

Were there any challenges in using a Jack Purcell sneaker as your blank canvas?:

There was some challenges getting the paint in as many nooks and crannies as possible, and there are plenty of them on these shoes. I made a pretty big mess in my studio, but ultimately, it was a lot of fun.

How long did it take to create the final product?:

she's cute & talented. A bright young thing, whose interviews SCARE me. At 10 years old she has pretty high expectations for an immediate career path. At 10 I wanted "to be either a Paleontologist, a painter like Mary Cassatt, or own an olive vinyard in Italy.", those aspirations cHaNgEd, grew, & shrunk with every new club I joined, or science&art class I took. Hopefully her new manager, the "mastermind" behind "Keeping up with the Kardashians" doesn't pressure her into being anything other than an awesome kid, ALTHOUGH I feel like he, along with her parents are seeing $$$$$dollar signs$$$$$ dance like sugarplum fairies all around her.Hollywood, don't eat up an 11 year old...PLEASE. And ps-If that were my kid, I would be researching valley-girl de-programming before another interviewer or publicist tells her she's ADORABLE & encourages the charade. The 1st video is PAINFUL, the 2nd is disturbing. I can't imagine EVER getting away with that level of brattiness for 2 milli seconds in my house growing up. Tonight, let's all play a DRINKING GAME TO THIS VIDEO WHERE WE HAVE TO DRINK EVERY TIME SHE SAYS "LIKE".

I voted in someone's garage with a government issued MAGIC MARKER too thick to stay inside the bubble lines, surrounded by ScreaMinG kids, by the light of my cellular phone because there were no lights besides the one on the garage motor, on top of some sort of an over-sized cardboard version of a happy meal box that was intended to give me privacy while voting, which, incidentally, NOISILY COLLAPSED when I leaned on it, WITHOUT HAVING TO SHOW ANNNY FORM OF IDENTIFICATION to the volunteers who were cooing about how 168 of the 398 possible voters for their headquarters had actually voted-they were VERY impressed with this turnout, stating that it was "higher than they had anticipated" (??!?!?!?!)) SOOOOOO needless to say, I am a little unsure about where that little piece of "official" paper is going, BUT hey, I voted ;)

I have been revisiting some OLD memories tonight from a girlhood spent paintings and spinning on a wheel in a damp basement studio in Buffalo New York with a tangelo orange shag rug & cold cement walls.

Summers when dayyyys were spent museum-hoPping with my beautiful artist mother. I was remembering the stark white walls of the Albrite Knox museum where she would walk with the purpose and certainty of a woman who could educate the world about any painting or sculpture you so much glanced at, and I wandered with light toes and a deep curiosity while I tried to absorb her knowledge via some form of art osmosis. As she clickady clacked down the halls of whatever museum we were in, in whatever awesome sparkly shoes she was rocking at the time, my eyes never stopped bouncing from one painting to another. a Victor Vasarely that made me dizzy, an elegant Degas in the center of an otherwise empty room, to the high strung female guard combing the shuffling room with nervous eyes darting from one dormant camera bag to the next.
