These skull pieces by Dior (notice them in my previous post on the aways gorgeous Lara Stone)made me think of the Kostnice Sedlec in the Czech Republic. The ossuary is estimated to contain the skeletal remains of anywhere between 40,000 and 70,000 people. In the mid 14th century, the Black Death's death toll overflowed the cemetary with corpses;
according to legend, in 1511 the task of exhuming SKELETONS and stacking their BONESinTHE CHAPELwas given to a half-blind monk. The bones remained there until a woodcarver (and obvious artist) FrantiĊĦek Rint was given the task of arraning the bones-what he made is a morbidly gorgeous Baroque-esque body of art (pun intended)
