RALPH LAUREN'S URBAN COWBOY CHANNELING ANNIE HALL

I think we all said: "ohh-la-la" to Ralph Lauren's Urban Cowboy themed show in New York yesterday, however, why was "la-di-da"  resonating in my lil' head's amphitheater?

I must say, I saw a young Diane Keaton and her lovely character, ANNIE HALL shining through the looks. From the neckties and flowwwing coats and sweaters, to the Derby and delicious Pork Pie hats, Annie Hall's spirit of style prevailed.

While the showing was absolutely stunning, there were a few design  elements that have been described as: "...heavy-handed...", costumy, and over-the-top Western. And while costumey belts and a suede jacket that might go down as the peacocking braggart of fringed, suede items of this decade were all present at roll call, I am a full-on supporter of grocery store runs in TOP HATS and pink wigs - so I am certainly not in the complaining club. I found the show to be beautiful, wearable, and very in touch with what WOMEN want. Therefore I sayyyyyy:

Marc Jacobs

So here are some key looks from the Marc by Marc Jacobs show in New York earlier today.

It looks to me as if Mr. Jacobs is still feelin' that midi skirtn' disco vibe as overall, the collection feels very young and fresh, with a very distinct nod to the 70's.

With high waists, retro bathing suit bottoms, and stripes runnin' all up n' down that runway, 

the modelas, led by Swedish beauty Frida Gustavsson all hit the runway with frizzy hair like Gina from Scarface, blowin' in the stuffy wind of the stark white runway.

Alright, so first thangs' first honeybees, jersey is really the ideal fabric here, as it will allow the skirt to mold to your shape without clinging to your less flattering, more specific parts. Let's not show off our ankles here-we're not going for Pilgim chic, let's not use out skirt as a swiffer-dirty skirt bottoms may look BADASS, but its only bad-ta-the-bone till' you sweep along doggy dung from park to your lunch date. Instead, let's find a smart, long-enough length in a practical, flattering fabric that hugs your curves, in a colour that'll bootlick yer FLAT BOOTS off and match your faaaavourite slim sweater or cropped vintage concert T.

BOOKMARC MARCING HIS TERRITORY ON BLEECER

To some of the neighborhood's residents, their once hip and bookwormish neighborhood seems to be turning into Marc Jacob's little storefront pet collection.

When Biography Bookshop, a cornerstone in the neighborhood's character closed its doors after 20 years, Marc Jacob's announced that he would open a store in its place-his 5th one in the West Village.

While the initial instinct was that locals would take an instant loathing to this fashion empire-expansion into their literary world, contrary sentiment seems to be brewing. Friday, the coming soon sign in the window was taken down and Marc Jacobs-Bookmarc's doors were quietly opened not with a sparkly press release, but just a few tweets from Robert Duffy, the president of Marc Jacobs.

To everyone's surprise, you can not find a single wearable piece of clothing in this Marc Jacobs store. Instead you will find a wide selection of hard-to-find coffee table books like the 33 1/3 series, or Kate Moss by Mario Testino. 

While its no longer a smallish bookshop, it tries to maintain that feel, and much to the hood's chagrin, it seems as if this little bookshop is taking itself seriously when it comes to its selection of books and stylish school and office supplies. Time will tell, but thus far, Bookmarc seems to have been received with much more open arms than anyone had anticipated.
